Partners and Affiliates We are so grateful for the organizations with which we have established mutually-beneficial relationships, and we'd like to tell you a bit about them. Some are also hearing loss organizations; others focus on different needs, but are sensitive to the issues of people affected by hearing loss and interested in helping folks deal with them. Hearing Loss Network gratefully acknowledges the PennySaver for providing a free and effective way for us to reach out to San Diegans with hearing loss. HLN Staff Active in Related Organizations One of our goals is to increase public awareness of hearing loss and how it affects people's lives. When we first began to "spread the word", we were really surprised to learn how little the general public knows about hearing loss. So we began to look for existing organizations that might be interested in knowing more. Of course, we're also active in groups that focus specifically on hearing loss. Here's a list of councils and committees to which we regularly contribute. Click on the links for a short description of each organization. This organization consists of representatives from most of the San Diego organizations that deal with deafness or hearing loss. It is the place to be if you want a broad view of what's going on in San Diego that affects people with hearing loss. We meet from September through June from 11:30 to 1:00 on the first Thursday of the month. For additional information, please contact Fran Knell. This committee consists of representatives from a variety of organizations that are involved in promoting the health of San Diego county residents. It is hosted by the county's Aging and Independence Services department. Discussion focuses on what the various organizations are doing and how they can work together to improve services. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 2:30. For additional information, please contact Katie Judd. The Kinship Steering Committee is another San Diego county hosted group that includes representatives from various community organizations. The purpose of this committee is to support people who are providing care for family members. This includes grandparents raising grandchildren, people taking care of parents, nieces and nephews, etc. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month from 10:00 to 12:00. For additional information, please contact Christine Honeycutt.
