Help Yourself!

Treat the Person (html)

Treat the Person (Word)

This article was written for inclusion in an email publication intended for audiologists. Its purpose is to convince them that they should treat patients as more than just an ear, that patients need information about hearing loss groups, coping strategies, communications issues, etc. You might want to give this article to YOUR audiologist!

2006 Captioner Shortage (html)

2006 Captioner Shortage (Word)

FCC regulations require that 100% of new programming be captioned starting in January 2006. We believe that the severe shortage of captioners will prevent this from happening, and that the logistics of the situation make this situation FAR worse than previous increases in captioning requirements.

ALDAcon Advocacy Handout (html)

ALDAcon Advocacy Handout (Word)

HLN is proud to serve on the ALDA Advocacy committee. Our goal is to encourage ALDAns to become involved in advocating for people with hearing loss. We wrote up a summary of our emergency captioning advocacy efforts to be handed out at the 2004 ALDAcon Advocacy Workshop.

Emergency Captioning During San Diego Wildfires (html)

Here's an article we wrote about the lack of emergency captioning during the recent San Diego wildfires (which is illegal!). It includes the complaint we filed with the local television stations and the FCC.
